Just had one of those Kenwood KAC-742 amps on my workbench. Good sounding amp but only 80 watts RMS bridged, barely enough to get a 12-inch subwoofer excited.
The results may differ if you power something efficient, like a vintage Bazooka tube or Cerwin-Vega subwoofer.

Absolutely, you're not going to power a modern sub. After bench testing I tried it out on a similar vintage JBL GT122 in a ported enclosure. Like I said, it's a good sounding amp, especially for powering highs, but plenty of other amps from the era are better suited for subwoofer duty.
