Spare wheel well sub box - just seal over the top of the well?

My wheel well has a jack point and stuff to pull up the spare wheel and lock it in place, so takes up space.

Do I really need to fibreglass a tub in the well or can I fix down a circular trim piece around the outside of the well, silicone seal the heck out of it then mount a baffle onto the trim price to make the well air tight?

Just wondering :)

As long as the tub is stiff, which they usually are, you can just seal the mounting baffle. Make sure it's around the air space you want.

Would neo magnets and silicone sealant hold the trim piece good enough and still be removable?

Mounting without drilling holes or leaving residue would be ideal.

If it's a sedan (with a separate trunk space), that should work fine. If it's a hatchback/SUV where the trunk's air space is shared with the passenger's air space, we should bolt everything down for safety reason (everything flies out in an accident).

Diy.phil a correctly applied construction adhesive has more holding power than your every day wood/metal screw.

Now bolts, nuts, and washers are a different story.

Guess construction adhesive would need to be cut off and sanded if the trim plate had to be removed?
