HDPE for Amp Board

Good morning,
Is there a recommended process for properly cutting and painting HDPE? I found a 24x48 sheet for $16 dollars that is white, and want to use it for an amp board. Suggestions other than grab a can of Krylon and go to town? Thanks!

I've been working a lot with HDPE lately. I'm not too sure you're going to get paint to stick to it properly. Is yours textured or smooth? Maybe if you spend hours sanding it to get it roughed up and then find a special plastics primer. But, by the time you've done all that you could have purchased another material that is designed to take paint.

If you don't care as much about the quality of the finish then maybe you will be fine. Paint will scrape and chip easily but should stick well enough if all you want to do is hide the white.

You may be able to use some googlefu and find a free version.

Oh and HDPE is made so that stuff does NOT stick to it. Krylon plastic paint might stick but HDPE's job is to be chemical resistant. Good luck.
 
I agree with all of your sentiments Geo. After some searching, some advise to sand, then a primer/primer adhesive, then, then, then...probably just stick to MDF.

If I use any HDPE at all I will just make sure it's black to begin with. As for the vinyl wrap diy.phil, I don't think anyone wants to go there. But suede, that's got promise!

I ordered a bunch of HDPE to make speaker adapter rings. Plastic is needed for this application due to moisture. However, you don't need to build amp racks and other interior structures with it. MDF is fine there. I used HDPE because I had material left over and didn't want to bother painting or vinyl wrapping it.
