Apicella Auto Sound Demo Vehicle - 2019 Volvo S60 R Design

10 lbs shit in 4 lbs sack !!!! Good saying right there! You doing any under hood upgrades for all the toys? Voltage wise ? Can’t way to see trunkbuild !

probably no need for an alternator upgrade since this is a SQ oriented build. And not wont be demanding all 5000 watts at once. As far as the 4 pounds of shit.. yeah. I may have messed up in not measuring to carefully when ordering all of this stuff lol. Idk if all 3 12's will fit the way I want them to.

Can you explain how these are being utilized in stage 2 vs stage 4 ?

They will both be utilized the same. The rear and center and subs will both have the option to be used or not used with both systems.

Also apologies if I missed it, but why are you using 2 mid-range drivers in the center channel ? Given the price of those things it must be a very deliberate decision.

The more the merrier for a center channel. When doing a center, you need it to be able to play relatively low (200hz at minimum i'd say) with the same output as your side speakers. And I have the space. I don't like leaving space on the table if its available :)

So are you running the high-level speaker outs from the OEM amp to the Helix? is the Helix doing signal summing and flattening before DSP? (Hate OEM amp integrations...always a ton of work)

Yep. Fortunately this one was too difficult. I just needed to grab a LOT of signal wires. 10 pairs total

Man, you guys sure are chatty.. lol. Hopefully the last bit of this info will get ya talking :)

All the gear is heeeeere :)

. OEM Radio and DAP (not sure which model yet)

. Helix DSP Ultra with Director OR URC.3/Wifi Adapter (most likely a Wifi Adapter in each Helix piece to have total control)

. (3x) Illusion C12

. (2) Focal 3.5WM & Focal TBM center channel

. Audiofrog GS60 & GS10 (rear door, not pictured)

. Audiofrog GS42 (rear deck, not pictured)

System 1: Stage 2 OEM-Style System

. Helix V Twelve

. Audiofrog GB10

. Audiofrog GB25

. Audiofrog GB60

System 2: Stage 4 Fully Custom System

. (3) Mosconi Pro 4|10

. (3) Mosconi Pro 1|10

. Focal TBM

. Focal 3.5WM

. Focal 8WM

. Both systems will share center channels and subs. Center channel will be powered from a Mosconi 4|10

. The Helix V Twelve will get signal from either 2 or 4 outputs of the Helix Ultra, so the Ultra will essentially have total control of the system once the V Twelve is set

. I will be able to change presets to play any combination of the aforementioned systems in any way i could possibly fathom. My ultimate goal is to somehow utilize all speakers at once in a way that is probably unheard of in aftermarket car audio. The features of the Helix DSP's will be key in doing this properly in essentially creating my own upmixer with the virtual channels and Real Center feature. The hopeful end result is a soundstage that exists clear as day beyond the boundaries of the car in every way possible.

Finished up work for the day and decided to take my Illusion C12s to the table saw... this should just give me enough room to do what I was hoping to do

OMG this makes me pucker my asshole just thinking about it, didn't leave much room room for error!

Really excited to see this one come together, I grew up in a "quick brick" family until my dad got the full on BMW bug in the early 90's. The wifey is really looking at the new xc60's with hungry eyes... the new cars sure are lookers.

Yeah, no room for error. Thankfully got all 3 perfect down to the 32nd of an inch

I'm sure you'll give us the full breakdown but a couple more questions -

What is the rear deck speaker for ? (lighter subwoofer for clients who dont' want a box ? )
What was your criteria for using those Illusion subs ? I'm guessing box size requirements and displacement ?

The rear deck for rear fill, and for backup sensors. Rear doors too because why not. I could always mute them. This is a demo car after all, and its purpose is to show what is possible.

I chose the C12's because i needed something shallow. TBH, the enclosure is still a bit deeper than i had hoped. Oh well

Ok, I know this may be a dumb question, but I ALWAYS have wondered: Do subs in the trunk impact rear deck speakers? Is there something that has to be done for them not to interfere? Even if the speakers are mounted to the rear deck, and the subs are on the package shelf under them? How would/do you mitigate that?

Off topic.. I wasnt going to submit for these this year for a few reasons, but then i remembered i have a new car that i have to somehow pay for. If it has the possibility of helping sales, im in. That said, I made the Mobile Electronics Magazine Top 50 Installers and Top 50 Retailers list. If you guys think i deserve it, give me a vote for both. If not, vote for who you think does deserve it.

Yeah I definitely voted. I praised Nick's engagement of our community, and the thought and precision, skills, and modern tools he brings to his installs physically and auditory.
But maybe they will discount my vote since I haven't actually had any work done there !
